  कुमारश्च महावीर्यः कार्त्तिकेय इति स्मृतः। गाङ्गेयः पूर्वमभवन्महायोगबलान्वितः॥

  kumāraśca mahāvīryaḥ kārttikeya iti smṛtaḥ | gāṅgeyaḥ pūrvamabhavanmahāyogabalānvitaḥ ||

  Possessed of great energy, the child passed by the name of Kārtikeya. At first he had been called by the name of Gāṅgeya. He was endued with high ascetic powers.
